Sometime last week, a good friend and former colleague, Anne, texted me to say that I have left a legacy in Rustan's (my old employer). It turns out, she was referring to the old "Time for Caring" ad of the supermarket. No, I did not create that ad, I have no creative juices. They just used my hands for the shot. In other words, and believe it or not, I was their model! And yes, they only used my hands. Only my hands. Har har!
Even if my face and body are not model-worthy, I am actually quite pleased that I did this. Maybe when I am old and gray, I can tell my grandkids, hey I had a shot at hand modeling (pro bono) in the past, however brief and short-lived that was. I remember Archie and Eric (both friends and former colleagues) took shots of every girl in the Marketing Department at that time, and I just got lucky they chose my hands. So there, I spilled the beans. I was not THE first choice. It was just like ah, okay, this one looks better, let's just take this. Hahaha.
This ad came out in major broadsheets during Earth Day in 2007. Rustan's has since used this material for some other collaterals (like I saw a Time for Caring tarpaulin in Rustan's Supermarket Corinthian Hills). Now Anne tells me, they are now using this as wallpaper or screensaver image in their computers. So that was the legacy Anne was referring to. And I thought after devoting 8 years of my professional life in Rustan's, I would have left a deeper, more scholarly legacy (like say, a good economic database, research best practice), but no, no, no. I am diminished to a hand shot. But hey, that is better than nothing.
But honestly, I am very glad that Rustan's kept this material. Seeing this image brings back fond memories of my days in Shopwise. I miss my friends there. Sorely miss them.
